Skipton Rugby Football Club

skipton RFC

Skipton Rugby Football Club

Skipton RFC has some of the best rugby facilities in Yorkshire, which is why it often hosts County games, County Cup Finals etc.

The main first team pitch is bound by a large seated stand on one side and a large covered standing area on the other side, and these facilities provide comfortable viewing for supporters in addition to aura for players. Additionally, the club has a second full-size pitch and also a floodlit training pitch.

At adult level the club fields three teams each Saturday and ten junior/mini teams each Sunday. The first XV play in Yorkshire 2. Facilities are modern and the club has six changing rooms, which were refurbished in 2002.

Above all, Skipton RFC has a reputation for being a friendly and traditional rugby club and new players of all abilities are always most welcome, as are new supporters and members.
Skipton’s first fixture was against an Ilkley side at Ilkley on 7th November 1874, and though Skipton lost the game, their play drew the following comment from the Press: – “Considering this was the first match ever played by a Skipton team, we think the result may be considered highly satisfactory”. Eleven players took the field for Skipton, being captained by A. Sidgewick. Two other players played part of the game for Skipton as substitutes.

The club have very kindly offered full use of their facilities to TEAM SSIJ for an overnight stay on our 2013 challenge and we are extremely grateful to them for this and proud to have them on board as a partner to the challenge.

Amber Valley RUFC

Formed in 1967, Amber Valley RUFC are a family friendly club and welcome new players from 4 to 40.

Currently they have 4 Senior teams (1st, 2ndnand Vets) with the First Team plying their trade in the Midlands 3 East (North Division). They also have a Junior club catering for those aged over 11, which is a natural progression from the Mini rugby section which runs sides for those 4 years and over.

The club’s most successful period came in the early nineties where they gained various promotions before winning both the top Division and the League Cup, as well as becoming Derbyshire Cup Champions twice.

Following a shallow period the club now finds itself in a vibrant and up and coming position. With excellent facilities and a continually growing Junior section Amber Valley RUFC are looking forward to continue to offer Rugby to the local community in their family, friendly and fun environment.

Everyone at Team SSIJ are immensely grateful for the help the club have given us thus far and are extremely happy that they have agreed to become a partner for our 2013 Challenge. We will be staying with them for the final night of the challenge, so if you’re in the area why not pop down to the club and join the party – you’ll be supporting both us and them.

The club caters for those aged 11 upwards and are now Clubmark Accredited.
